2025 Roadmap

We’re excited to share our comprehensive 2025 OpenSync 7.x roadmap. The roadmap emphasizes significant advancements in the platform, focusing on infrastructure improvements, including updates to the Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) and a comprehensive re-architecture to prepare OpenSync for next-generation solutions. This year marks a strategic expansion into the Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) space, with an emphasis on latency reduction and optimized support for cellular platforms. Additionally, efforts are being directed towards exploring standardization opportunities while ensuring that Wi-Fi 7 services deliver exceptional performance. The attached roadmap also includes the OpenSync 6.6 update.

In 2025, we are introducing new methodologies to manage future releases. For every OpenSync release, the leading platforms will be signed off with the latest FRV and Wi-Fi dependent OSRT: OSRT 2.2 for up to Wi-Fi 6E and OSRT 3.0 for Wi-Fi 7. This approach will be applied to both new and legacy releases, ensuring consistency and compatibility across all platforms. Partners submitting issue reports will be required to validate their integrated solutions against the defined FRV and OSRT versions to maintain compatibility and uphold quality standards. Updates on the evolution of these strategies across future releases will be shared.

For OpenSync 6.6, the primary platform is QCA Wi-Fi 7 on the 'Miami' SoC, running SDK 12.x, validated with FRV 4.0 for sign-off, and with OSRT 3.0 serving as the benchmark for Wi-Fi 7 platforms. Future follow-up platforms integrating OpenSync 6.6 will need to meet the same FRV standards and utilize the corresponding OSRT versions for the validation process.
